American Idol Quarter Finals…The Best I’ve Seen

All season, the American Idol coaches were full of praise for every single contestant.  So what made Randy Jackson chose tonight to criticize Haley Reinhart?  Don’t get me wrong, he was entirely correct.  Haley screamed through part of that song.  But, usually the judges just ignore the slight wobbles of this year’s contestants.  It will be interesting to see if America votes more for Haley because she was criticized or less.

The theme of the first songs “inspirational” fits the country music genre perfectly.  What that means is that Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina did a great job tonight.  In my opinion, they were the two best of the first set of songs.  Both were very smart in choosing a song so close to America’s heart.  James did a good job–but it may have been too much of the same old thing.

I don’t know how easy it is to take advice from someone who has horns in her face, but the Idol contestants seemed to have pulled something out of the experience.  Lady Gaga may be a tad different, but she sure knows how to market herself into millions of dollars. Her opinions just can’t be ignored.

The second set of songs were all good.  Of the four, Scotty may have came out looking a little silly on his second number.  Lauren showed her sexy side.  She has definitely matured during her time on Idol.  Haley redeemed herself.  James did what James does…gave his song a rocker twist, added his high notes and some flash and voila!

This one’s a tough one.  I don’t really think any of those four contestants should leave the show.  I would love to see all four in the final fighting it out to the bitter end.  But, alas, I guess that won’t happen.  So I guess we’ll see who gets eliminated tomorrow.  Yikes!

James may have to go although I’d prefer Scotty getting the boot. I think James’ two performances were overrated. Scott, though, was consistent given his contrasting song choices.

I’m afraid my favorite will be going home. Randy was absolutely correct in his criticism, and Jennifer too, of Haley. That was painful to watch/hear, and not really a memorable choice. Yes, just like last week, she redeemed herself on the second song… which was perfect Haley material and she did it justice. Her looks as she sang were smoldering. But to little to late I’m afraid, plus talking back to the judges never works.

I think best overall performance of the night was by James. Loved #9 and thought he was great on that one.

Loved Scotty’s first song and hated the second… he looked like a damn fool. But, as he matures he will be able to do something silly like that.

Did not care for Lauren’s first song, but the second was excellent. That was the first time she has really sold me on a performance. But, I do not think she will win.

Fun to see Lady Gaga… I had never heard her speak before. I thought she gave good advice.

And yes, why have the judges started judging now??? Glad that they have… but where were they at the start when the kids could have used constructive criticism instead of being told how they were: Amazing, Geniuses, Artists, etc.???

Casey was a nice cheerleader for his Haley, but she will dump him when this is over.

James and Lady Gaga….it just doesn’t get any better. James rocked the stage last night. He is definetly the one to beat. Go James! :)

I am hoping Haley can hang in there another week. I really think she did better overall than Scotty and Lauren. Scotty had a good first song but was too cheesy in his second.
