American Idol, Lennon and McCartney

By this time, you probably know that Curtis Finch Jr. was voted off American Idol last week. I have to admit, I was very surprised and very disappointed. I loved him and I was looking forward to hearing him sing the different themes put before him. There is a “save” this season, but as usual, all four judges have to agree and they didn’t so bye, bye Curtis.

This week the remaining nine contestants sing John Lennon/Paul McCartney songs. I’m betting that many of my young bloggers don’t know very many of those songs! This was also true for some of the young contestants, making it harder for them.

Standing out this week for me was Candice Glover. I like that she can sing whatever is put before her. She has great range and is very professional.

Having a very bad week was my darling Lazaro Arbos. I love this guy, but me thinks he’s in over his head! Communication has to be a big issue for him. He always seems extremely nervous on stage–notice the sweat? I want him to succeed so much, but…

I’m sitting here and it’s Thursday morning. I write the blog in the morning after watching the show the night before. I like to do it this way because then I can let my mind tell me who stood out and who didn’t. If I don’t remember the performance then I know it wasn’t memorable, right?

I remember the judges loved Kree and Janelle. I’ve said this all along, they don’t do anything for me. I know they are both very talented women, but I don’t see me buying their music or attending their concert. To each his own…as they say!

I still love Burnell Taylor, but I really wish he’d stop with the hands. Would I buy his music? I’m not sure yet.

Of all the contestants, I think Amber Holcomb has the best chance of success. She’s young, pretty and talented. I do look forward to hearing her sing each week.

Everyone loves Angie Miller right? Why? What does she have that we haven’t seen a hundred other times on American Idol? Please, tell me because I don’t know if I just have a personal thing about this girl or what.

I was all excited about hearing Paul Jolley sing last night after seeing his time with Jimmy Iovine. I was surprised that it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. Paul Jolley is in trouble IMO, but of course what the heck do I know? They sent home Curtis last week and I didn’t see that coming!

I gave my 50 votes to Devin Velez. I want to do everything in my power to keep this guy in the competition. I like his versatility. I sure hope he doesn’t get lost in the shuffle!

So, that’s it for this week. I’m going to just write one blog a week, so you have to Google who goes home tonight. I’m off to check out last week’s comments. Keep ‘em coming! Bloggergal

I’m pretty surprised that Curtis went home. It seemed as though the judes liked him but oh well, The compettition is heating up sort of, I guess, maybe? The girls seem to have solid performances while the men just suck but you never know with this “crazy” show….

I really agree with you about Kree and Janelle. They’re not really anything memorable in my opinion. As well as some of the guy performances. I don’t really like The Beatles due to their consistency (judge me). I really like Angie because she sticks out! Of course it’s going to be like other American Idols who’ve won. This group this year isn’t exactly all that and she stands out in the best way. She sings so well and also has great range like Candice. She was the only tolerable performance of this episode; I was pretty bored with the others. She has a different sounding voice, too. A memorable one, I get chills every time.

This year, my favorites are Kree and Candace. I think it’s a girls season. The guys are no where near as good as the girls…IMO :)

I’ve got to say, I agree with you with Angie not being anything “special”, but she’s the only one with a chance of being famous-ish when she gets off this show, whether she wins or not, for the sole purpose that she has a decent voice and everyone loves her. I’m surprised you think that Amber Holcomb is the one with a chance though, I really didnt think she did too good this week! Thats just my opinion though! As you said, to each his own!

I found Jimmy Iovine’s comments on last night’s result show very interesting. He usually nails it on the head. I guess that’s why he is who he is! It wasn’t surprising to see Paul Jolley leave this week. However, it was surprising to see Amber Holcomb in the bottom three along with Devin Velez. As is the usual case on American Idol, America is voting for their favorites and NOT the best performance. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lazaro as our next American Idol. Bloggergal

Kree and Janelle are definitely my least favorite on the show. I like Angie because her style is different from everyone elses but then again that’s just my opinion. I also agree with you that Candice is a memorable contestant and has great range!

Okay. I was extremely angry with this week’s conestants due to the fact that they didn’t know the songs they were singing. The Beatles are my all time favorite band and I’m only 15 years old. No one should say a young generation can’t love such an iconic band, for I do. Due to the fact that Burnell didn’t even know what the song “Let it Be” was, i refused to vote for him. I also don’t like his tone much at all. Angie Miller is my absolute favorite. Why? Well why not? She has amazing star quality and an angelic voice that seems to outshine the rest. In my opinion, she has great star appeal which is obvious because everyone seems to love her. She sang “Yesterday” beautifully and i believe she truely felt the meaning of the song, unlike everyone else.

Paul, Candace, and Angie will have my votes! I am happy Curtice is gone and honestly waiting for Burnell to be next. As for Kree and Jenelle, there music is not doing anything for me. I love Jenelle’s voice and energy, yet not her song genre that she chooses to sing. As for Kree, shes like every other country singer in idol. the wont get past the top six, at least in my own eyes

I have to say, Curtis is not my favorite. He didn’t really stand out for me. So him going home only allows the competition to become more intense! It was very astonishing that some of the contestants did not know some of the songs. The Beatles are a very popular band liked by many, such as myself. Some of them who weren’t familiar with the songs really pulled it off though, I have to say! I’m not too much of a fan of Candice and Kree, but I LOVE Angie. She’s so beautiful, young, intelligent, and talented! You really have to give her props. She isn’t the only girl who I enjoy seeing perform. Janelle is such a pretty country girl. Her voice is so unique. I love her accent. She’s not afraid to be herself. She lets every inch of her shine without shame or embarressment. Burnell isn’t my favorite. He’s ohkay i guess. I definately favor the guys over the girls. I don’t know, some of the guys just don’t have their performances down as well as the girls.

I am verry surprised that Paul got voted out last week, I have been a fan if Paul from the beginning. Now usually I mostly talk about how I am usually not impressed with the girls, but last week on Beatles night I thought the girls did a great job, it was the first time I was impressed at all with the girls this year last week I thought Angie did the best of all the contestants.

I loved Burnell’s performance the best and then Angie of course. I did not like Janelle’s, I can not see her going far after this show but you never know.

Nicole Wright Says:

I liked how everyone had to sing songs by The Beatles. Since that’s not everyone’s style, it really showed who could adapt to different styles of music and who could not. I was a little bit surprised that Burnell didn’t know the lyrics to “Let it Be”! Even if you’re not a Beatles fan it’s still an iconic song that everyone should know. I’m surprised you don’t like Angie very much! I think she’s very entertaining and has the persona to be famous, but if I only heard her voice and didn’t even see her I think I would still buy her music. I think Amber is doing very well for being only 16. No one else is really sticking out to me yet.

the beatles are classic how do they not know there songs! how did burnell not know the song it was actually funny. the 16 year old Amber is actually good for only being a young girl.

i think that the beatles are really overated because alot of people rave about them and because of that everyone feels like they have to like them to. really they only made about 10 good songs in my opinion and those are the ones that everyone judges them on. no one thinks about all the other ok and even bad songs they made or about their history but meh, thats just my opinion. as for how the idols are doing i think they are doing very well on them.

i also thought that this week was one of the best weeks during the american idol season. With the beloved songs from the beatles made this week even better. I also think the quality of the work these singers put in to be the best they could be.

The show should be interesting considering that they will be singing songs by the beatles. The Beatles are classic, and they should know their songs. That music isn’t exactly everyone good chance to steal the show. I can’t say who I really think is the best, they all have a decent chance.
