American Idol Girls Are Much Better Than The Guys…Don’t You Think?

American Idol starts girls night with Crystal Bowersox.  She’s feeling better and thrilled that she’s still on the show.  She sings “As Long As I Can See the Light” by John Fogerty.  Randy loves her.  Ellen says she has pure natural talent.  Kara says she hit a new level.  Simon says he “mis-underestimated” her from last week.  He compared her to when they realized that Kelly Clarkson was a force to be reckoned with.

Since I did it last night, I’ll do it again tonight.  Would I pay to hear Crystal Bowersox sing?  Yes, yes I would.

Second up tonight is Haeley Vaughan.  She sings the Miley Cyrus song “There’s Always Going to be Another Mountain”.  Unfortunately for her, she can’t sing and she does a really bad job on this song, just like she did last week.  If America votes by talent, Haeley will be going home this week.  But, you know, I said that last week!  I wouldn’t pay to hear Haeley sing.

Lacey Brown sings “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer.  This was the song that Kara suggested last week.  Randy felt it was karaoke.  Ellen thought it was “adorable”.  Kara thinks she still has to step it up more, but that she’s back in the playing field.  Simon thinks she not memorable.  She’s cute, easy to watch perform and in tune…three positives, right?  I wouldn’t mind hearing her sing live.  I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to see her, but I’d listen if she was singing.

Did you notice that Simon is back in his tee?  In fact, everyone is more casually dressed tonight.  Hey, maybe they were all dressed up to meet Sarah Palin.

“Put Your Records On”  is the choice of youngin’ Katie Stevens.  Randy says there were some bright moments.  Ellen thinks she has a great voice, but she still feels like she’s not singing songs that match her age.  Kara is still waiting for her “moment”.  Simon thinks she needs more experience and she needs to pick what kind of recording artist she wants to be.  I think she’s got potential.  So maybe I’d pay to hear her or maybe not.

Didi Benami decides to change it up and sing “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers.  By the way, I love the way she was dressed.  She has great style.  Randy didn’t think she chose the right song.  Ellen loves Didi’s voice, but also doesn’t think the song was a good choice.  Kara said it wasn’t good.  Simon doesn’t like it either.  Well, I’m not afraid to say, that I liked her.  I think she has a great voice.  I didn’t think she was out of tune.  I thought it was a good choice of song for her.  Oh, and yes, I’d pay to hear Didi sing!

“With Arms Wide Open” by Creed is Michelle Delamor’s choice for the evening.  Randy thinks Michelle’s outfit is hot.  He thinks she should have done more with the song.  Ellen thought it almost worked, but not quite.  Kara says it was her favorite performance of Michelle’s.  Simon agrees with Kara, but says she struggled with some of the notes.  She sure did struggle with some of the notes.  She needs to improve before I’ll pay to hear her sing.

Okay, I’m going to have to stop here and get on my soapbox.  What the heck is going on with the judges?  I don’t think they are even listening to the performers.  It’s almost like they’ve picked their favorites and stick with them no matter what or how they sing.  I even listened to Didi sing again and I think she was better than Michelle.  I know I’m far from a professional, but what gives?  I think Michelle should be around for awhile, but I didn’t think she performed well tonight.

Lilly Scott  plays her twelve-string guitar on “A Change Is Gonna Come”, the Sam Cooke classic.  Randy says she worked it out and it was his favorite performance of the night.  Ellen tells her she has “it”.  Kara says she was riveted.  Simon thought it was good, but not crazy about it.  He thought Crystal was better than her.  I don’t think it’s fair to compare Crystal with Lilly at this point–it’s too soon.  This was my favorite performance of the night so far.  Yep, I’d pay to hear her sing and yep, I’m going to I-Tunes to buy this one tomorrow.  I’m even getting used to the color of her hair!

Katelyn Epperly accompanying herself on the piano sings “The Scientist” by Coldplay.  Randy liked it.  Ellen thought it was too slow.  Kara says she “kinda loves her”.  Simon thought it was a smart choice of song.  He thought it was a million times better than last week.  I think she’s good, but I agree with Ellen, the song was too slow.  Maybe it’s because she’s close to the end of the show and I’m exhausted.  I’m going to wait to decide if I’ll pay to hear her sing.

Second last to sing is Paige Miles.  She sings a Kelly Clarkson song and if I knew the name of it, I’d tell you!  Maybe If You Don’t Have the Answer?  Randy mentions that Kara wrote that song.  He liked it, but he’s not sure it was the right choice.  Ellen disagrees with Randy and she loves it.  Kara thinks she can have a hit with the song, but don’t forget she wrote it.  Simon agrees with Randy.  He thinks this is the second week of her choosing the wrong song.  I like Paige.  Will I pay to hear her sing?  We’ll see.

Okay, so how many times in the last two days have you heard a judge use the word “frustrating”.  If I had a dollar for…

Closing the show tonight is Siobhan Magnus.  She tackles the big song “Think” by Aretha Franklin.  Randy says she’s bold and fearless.  He says “it was dope”.  Ellen loved it too.  Kara agrees.  Simon once again tells her she’s such a strange person.  He thinks she’s interesting and very, very talented.  I loved it and I’d gladly pay to hear her sing some more.

I’ll be back tomorrow to let you know who is eliminated.  Goodnight…Bloggergal1

I agree, the girls are singing the boys under the table this season. It actually angers me that they insist on having an even number of guys and gals in the top 12. My favorites last night were Katelyn Epperly and Siobahn Magnus. I also kind of enjoy Haeley Vaughn, even though I know she’s not a great singer.

Check out my TV blog at couchtimewithjill.blogspot.com and let me know what your favorite performances were!

Yes, I think the girls are stronger than the guys this year over-all. And maybe this year there could be 8 girls and 4 guys in the top 12. It doesn’t really bother me that much that they make it 6 and 6. It will work itself out when they get to the top 12. Look at last year… by the time they got down to the final 8, there were only 2 girls still standing. This year looks like it could be the opposite of that. One girl (at least) will leave tonight that I want to have another chance… but that’s the way it goes.

Some really good performances by the girls last night. Crystal is going strong. Katie did well. Michelle was good. Paige showed some range. But I gotta give it up for the “Funny little thing”, Siobhan! Absolutely BRILLIANT song choice! (if you can pull it off). She must have been paying attention to past seasons. Kat McPhee did that song (“Think”) at about this time in her season. Kat performed the song a little better than Siobhan… but Siobhan hit that note at the end!! When they say “choose the right song”, that is exactly what they are talking about.

4 will leave tonight, who will they be? I’ll GUESS these…
Guys: Tim and John
Girls: Haeley and Lacey (I hope Didi gets another chance… very unique voice that I want to hear with the right song)

Well, I only got 2 of 4 right. 50 percent is great in baseball.. not so much here though. I think Tim should have left. Jermaine’s downfall may have been taking a great song like “What’s Goin’ On” and giving a very light hearted performance of it (he was smiling and mugging through half of that song). It did not play well, but he deserved another chance over Tim. John.. well that was a no-brainer.

The girls. Haeley was an easy choice and I wish they didn’t make them repeat their songs on the way out. It wasn’t good the first time, and now she just had her dreams ripped away from her. Of course it’s going to be even worse the 2nd time! Michelle was a bit of a surprise to me… but Bloggergal seemed to be onto that one. I am happy to see Didi and Lacey get another shot.. I thought one of those 2 would leave.
