American Idol News

One advantage (I suppose) to living in Southern California is that the local news stations report on American Idol goings-on all the time.  Last night after the show, the local channel reported that Crystal Bowersox was sent to the hospital due to a complication related to diabetes.  They report that she is expected to sing tonight.

Another item reported was that Sarah Palin and her daughters were in attendance at yesterday’s show.  They were sitting off camera, but the audience that was interviewed after the show identified them.  She also appeared on Leno last night.  I know, it’s not too exciting, but it’s all I have!  See you tonight…Bloggergal1

LOL…yes Bloggergal, I did see Simon’s shirt.(previous post) It appears he had to give up the top two buttons to get a collar!

The guys. Over-all, much better than last week. It could partially be because they set the bar so low for themselves, but I think they listened to the criticism… and worked on it.

I take a similar approach, except the question I ask myself is, “Would I buy/download their songs?”. I totally eliminate appearance from the equation (Yes, for the girls too!..LOL). If I wanted looks, I’d watch America’s Next Top Model or something. I watch AI for singing talent… period. Yes, I get that the entertainment business doesn’t work that way… but it works for me.

Big Mike…. I agreed with Kara. I wasn’t really seeing (hearing) why he was on there. But he nailed the James Brown song. By far his best performance and now I’ll be looking for him to be that good each week.

John…… huh!?.. sorry, I fell asleep during his performance. Slow songs are tricky. They can be GREAT.. like Chris Daughtry singing “What A Wonderful World” …or Adam Lambert singing “Mad World”. Or they can just be BORING… depends on the talent.

Casey… Great guitar!!.. but since this isn’t Guitar Hero, I disregarded that. He did a good job I thought. I want to hear more.

Alex… Hmmm, Of all the guys, he has the most interesting sound. Not the best voice… but there is something there that is different. He had great and terrible all mixed in the same song. Alex may not be around long enough to show us his potential… but I hope he gets another shot.

Todrick.. Sorry Bloggergal, but I have to disagree with you on something here (I guess we all have our own opinions.. so it’s cool). I don’t think he makes up for voice with dancing and looks. I get your point though. You are speaking about potential in a show… where looks and dance steps do matter. I didn’t like his song choice, but I actually liked his creativity in changing the song…. and I thought his vocals were decent.

Jermaine… GREAT song choice.. wrong approach. I think Randy eluded to what I was thinking. When you take a powerful song like that and give it a “Love Boat” rendition… it doesn’t work. That song requires passion and pain on your face and in your voice. Jermaine should have WATCHED Marvin sing it. I think it would have helped his tone. He had good vocals… I just think the “light” style for such a “heavy” song is what turned the judges on him.

Andrew… Another interesting voice that chose the wrong song. But what is the right song? I don’t know for him yet. I wasn’t sure about him when they put him in the top 24… but now I know he belongs in the top 12 and has potential to do really well. I like the raspy sound he has at times.

Aaron… When he chose “My Girl” I thought, “Oh No!!”. He did a decent job with it… but that is one of those songs you don’t choose if you have watched the show enough. It usually comes off as “corny”..whether it’s “My Girl” or a girl changing it to “My Guy”. History on AI hasn’t been good when singing that song. He’s good, but he needs a couple more years. I don’t think it really matters, 13 year old girls wont send him packing any time soon.

Tim…. I agree with Simon. He did make a HUGE improvement over last week… but that still isn’t good enough at this point. The song he sang was by Matt Nathanson.

Lee…. I like Lee. He is the one I picked as my favorite of the guys. I like “Lips Of An Angel”. The two didn’t add up for me though. I am waiting for a great performance from him. Hopefully, it will be next week. I don’t know?…maybe he would do well with a Joe Cocker type song?

Who leaves?… I’d guess Tim and John

I thought it was interesting that the day Sarah Palin was in the audience, the judges were all dressed up and the day Vera Wang was in the audience, they weren’t. I would think you’d want to impress the designer!

Casey is definitely a great singer. He’s a great entertainer and I love the way he plays the guitar. He reminds me of Bo Bice and I think that he could go as far as Bo Bice which would mean he could win american idol

I agree, I feel that the girls are better because they have a sound of originality. Furthermore the guys seem to just sound like tge musician that sings the actual song as the girls add a taste of originality.
