American Idol Top 36 part 1

It seems that I’ll be taking over the American Idol blog.  Hopefully, you are all going to help me out with your comments!

Let me start by saying that I’m not happy with how the producers have changed the show so far.  I was happy with the shortened version of tryouts.  I’m not one of those fans of the “horrible” contestants.  I would have liked to hear more of the good singers though.  It saddens me that so many contestants make it to Hollywood and you never even see or hear them.  This newest plan to have 12 sing and then only 3 move forward is really stupid.  What if all 12 of the group should be the final 12?  I have to admit, I think American Idol is manipulated by the producers.  So I’m pretty sure they were smart enough NOT to put the best 12 all in one group.  I just don’t think the new way is fair at all.  Let us listen to all 36 and then vote for the top 12…period…end of story.  But, of course this is not the way it will be.  <sigh>

So here we go.  First to sing last night was Jackie Tohn.  Dressed in shiny, black tight pants and high heels, she sang Elvis’ “A Little Less Conversation”.  The judges found her entertaining but didn’t think the vocals were any big deal.  Everyone liked the pants except for Simon!

Ricky Braddy sang “A Song For You” by Leon Russell.  He was really good, but alas the American Idol producers haven’t featured him and so very few people know who he is and this will most likely lead to his demise.

Alexis Grace…you know blond hair with that pink streaky section…sang Aretha’s “I Never Loved A Man” and kicked butt.  All the judges praised her and she looks like the front runner to move on.

Anoop Desai sang Monica’s “Angel of Mine”.  Was he as good as some of the others?  You tell me.  But that probably doesn’t matter much since he’s featured on every show.  American Idol is pushing him on and my guess is he’ll be one of the top three this week.

Doing his country/western thing was Brent Keith with “Hicktown”.  He can sing, but the country/western bit isn’t going to take him to the top.

Tatiana del Toro, the manic from Hollywood, toned it down to sing Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love For You”.  What is her story?  One week, giggling and crazy…next week…calm as a cucumber.  Why is she in the top 36?  So that the radio DJ’s and the blogsters have something to talk about.  Don’t get me wrong, she can sing.  Is she the next American Idol.  I don’t think so.

Stephen Fowler is the guy who walked off the stage in Hollywood after forgetting his words.  In my opinion, DID NOT deserve to be in the top 36.  What happened to “if you forget your words, you’re outta here?”  Anyway, he seemed to seal his fate by singing Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”.  Bye, bye Stephen.

The seventeen-year-old Stevie Wright tried a younger tune with Taylor Swifts “You Belong With Me”.  She chose this song because the judges told her she needed to be more youthful.  But of course, the judges didn’t like the song choice.  As usual, the judges tell those that sing older songs that they aren’t youthful and those that sing youthful songs that they should be singing something else.  But anyway, she didn’t sing well.

Anne Marie Boskovich sang Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman”.  The judges thought she wasn’t good enough for the song.

The bubble tea shop worker, Casey Carlson sang “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”.  What in heck is a bubble tea shop anyway?  Unfortunately, that is the most interesting thing I could mention about her.

Singing Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Wanna Be” was oil rigger Michael Sarver.  This guy has charisma.  His smile and personality just make you want to vote for him.  The oil rigger thing and the cute wife and kids all add to his “likeability”.  My guess is he’ll make it through either now or during the wild card.  Oh and it doesn’t hurt that the producers are pushing for him, does it?

Last but not least we have Danny Gokey.  Come on, he doesn’t even have to sing to make it through to the top 12 does he?  But he did sing Mariah Carey’s “Hero”.  Awesome song choice.  You think he had any help picking it?  Now, don’t get me wrong.  I LOVE him.  How could I not?  His story has all the right elements.  He’s cute, genuine and he can sing.  Can he end up being the next American Idol?  You betcha.  But speaking of Danny Gokey, I still can’t believe that his BF was eliminated.  Did you see him in the audience last night?  Don’t you think he was better than Stephen Fowler?  “Hmphf!”

That’s the first twelve contestants.  My husband fell asleep half way through the show–not a good sign, American Idol!!!  I’ll be back tonight with the results of your votes.  PLEASE make this site your own and comment, comment, comment!!!!

I totally agree with you about the process of elimination. It just doesn’t seem fair. If I remember right it took a couple of times for the population to really fix on Cook and look where he is today. If they had done it this way he may not have made it and look where we would all be today.

Thanks for the comment, Debbie! I’ve always felt that American Idol producers manipulate the show to get the results that they want. Hey, but what do I know? Bloggergal1
