Carrie’s CMA Wins Indicative Of Idol’s Country Niche

What’s been amazing about American Idol in its six seasons to date is that its contestants have actually fared better on the country charts and on country radio than they have in the pop world.

It’s fresh on my mind given Carrie Underwood’s pair of CMA wins this week and Kellie Pickler’s nomination. A recent look at the country charts showed Carrie, Kellie, Season 2’s Josh Gracin and Season 5’s Bucky Covington.

Yes, Bucky Covington.

To be perfectly honest, not that it would fit my musical leanings, perhaps it would be a good move for Idol producers to incorporate more potential country stars?

Look, at this rate, Carrie Underwood isn’t only going to be the most successful Idol of all time, she could be the biggest female country artist of her generation. It just seems as if country music is more willing to accept our Idols, and my gut marketing hunch is that the show should embrace it.

I understand Bucky did not peak on Idol..not really his niche….but when will people stop being so surprised at his success? Now I know that Carrie is and always will be in a league of her own….. but Bucky was the best selling new male artist in country music of 2007…not to mention since 1992. Bucky live with guitar and a band, performing his music….. not what you saw on idol.I do get how his appeal might be lost on a non country fan however:) Just stickin’ up for my boy.
