Last Chance for the Guys to Make the Top 12 on American Idol

Starting out tonight’s American Idol is Lee Dewyze.  The judges all made positive comments.  I felt like that they would have said positive things even if he was the worse singer ever.  Are they programmed?  I know a lot of you like Lee Dewyze and I don’t dislike him, but I don’t see anything special about him either.

“Trouble” is Alex Lambert’s song tonight.  Randy thinks it was a good song choice.  Ellen has taken him from an unripe banana to a ripe banana and now she says he’s becoming a mushy banana and she hopes he’s not becoming a cocky banana.  She said it, not me.  Kara and Simon both think he’s not relaxing and he has to let himself go.  I agree, he does seem very nervous when he’s performing.

“Hallelujah” happens to be one of my favorite songs, so I was happy to hear Tim Urban sing it tonight.  Randy thinks he did a pretty good job.  Ellen left the judge’s podium and gave him a hug.  It’s about time Ellen started acting more like Ellen!  Kara thinks he’s in the running now.  Simon thinks he’s responsible for the improvement in Tim and he says this is his best performance so far.

Andrew Garcia decides to shake things up (again) and picks the Christina Aguilera song “Genie in a Bottle”.  Randy thought the song was pitchy.  Ellen liked his song choice and she thinks he’s loved.  Kara thinks he peaked too early and she doesn’t think this performance was great.  Simon thinks it came across a little bit desperate.

We’re half way through the contestants for tonight and I don’t think anyone has given a memorable performance.  Maybe the second half will be better?

Singing Keith Urban’s “You’ll Think of Me” is Casey James.  (I always want to say Casey Jones!!)  Randy thought it was a safe choice.  Ellen thought he sounded great.  Kara says she’s kinda back on the Casey train.  She thinks he’s missing “that spark”.  Simon thinks it was his second best performance and needs to find something a bit more memorable.  Maybe we won’t remember the song, but I sure as heck won’t forget that face.  The guy is hot and that’s pretty much what you need to remain on Idol.

When Aaron Kelly first started singing  “Already There”, I was a bit concerned.  But I thought he pulled it off.  Randy thinks he has the makings of being great.  Ellen feels he’s real but she thinks it was too much song for him.  Kara thinks he’s too young to sing that type of song.  Simon disagrees and tells Kara what she said was “rubbish”.  Surprisingly, Simon says that if we (referring to the judges) keep saying don’t sing this and don’t sing that, it will confuse the performers.  I’ve been saying that since Season One.

Queen’s “Somebody To Love” is another one of my favorite songs.  You go, Todrick Hall!  Randy says “Todrick is back!”  Ellen thinks he’s brave and he did a good job.  Kara thinks his singing was good, but perhaps too dramatic.  Simon says it was good in parts, but he thinks he’s a Broadway performer.  Yes, Simon and so was Adam Lambert, oh and what about Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson?  Shall I go on?

Michael Lynche sings “This Woman’s Work”.  Randy, “That was crazy!  Hot!”  Ellen thinks he is the one to beat now.  Kara was brought to tears.  Simon says this song was so needed and that he 100% nailed it and it was the best performance so far this season.  He definitely performed on this one.

Well that’s it for tonight.  Who will be eliminated tomorrow?  Let’s start with who won’t be…Michael Lynche, Casey James, Aaron Kelly and Todrick Hall.   I liked Tim Urban and I’m a dedicated fan of Andrew Garcia.  That leaves Alex Lambert and Lee Dewyze.  I have absolutely no idea who will go home tomorrow!  See you then…Bloggergal1

@Kelly, you are in luck! One of the 3 girls you mentioned will definitely be in the top 12… 100 percent guaranteed.

Who will leave tonight? I pretty much agree with Bloggergal on the 3 names she mentioned for the girls. I think it will be 2 of those… I’ll guess..
1) Katie
2) Paige (Katelyn as 3rd choice)

Choosing the guys is a bit tougher. Not because they are better.. just because they are mostly lumped in a pile of mediocrity. I thought Tim would be gone 2 weeks ago, but this time he chose a GREAT song. He gave a decent performance of a great song so that may sway some votes… (people might vote for the song and not the singer).. although there have much better renditions of that song on AI. I had really high hopes for Lee, but he hasn’t delivered since his first audition. I’ll guess…
1) Todrick
2) Tim (Alex as 3rd choice)

Casey James is a very good singer. I think he’s one of the most underated singers on this show. Don’t be surprised to see him in the top 2
