Once Again Adam Dominates on American Idol!

Hi Everybody,

This week is Motown week.  I’m pretty excited because I love Motown music.  The Idol contestants get to go to Detroit to meet Barry Gordy and Smokey Robinson.  Then Smokey goes to Los Angeles to mentor the contestants.

Last American Idol ended with Matt Giraud and this AI starts with Matt.  He sings Let’s Get It On…a Marvin Gaye song.   The judges say he’s a front runner now.    Singing both first and last shows that American Idol producers are loving him.  Did you happen to notice his jeans?

Kris Allen sings How Sweet It Is to Be Loved By You… another Marvin Gaye song.  He accompanies himself on the guitar.  The judges say he put his own spin on it and Simon thinks he needs more of a “star swagger”.  Whatever, Simon.  Kris is just so cute.  I can’t help but like him.

You Can’t Hurry Love sung by Scott McIntyre seemed to be a crowd pleaser, but Simon trashed him.  He felt it was the wrong song and “cheap”.  Simon thinks he consistently picking the wrong songs. Randy agreed with Simon, but Paula and Kara were more positive.  Try closing your eyes and listening to Scott sing and then tell me what you really think.  Truth is he’s just not up to the level of some of the others.  Sorry!

I don’t know what to make of Megan Joy.  Tonight she sings For Once In My Life.  Randy calls it a “train wreck”.  Kara said she was all over the place.  Paula comments about her beauty–ya’ know what that means!  Simon says it was horrible and she could be in trouble tonight.  I have nothing against tattoos, but hers are just weird and don’t flatter her at all.  Her voice is different but she’s not finding the songs that will keep her in the running.

Anoop Desai has the guts to sing a Smokey Robinson song Oohh Baby Baby.  Simon tells him that he needs to work on his performances.  I agree.  Anoop is a bit boring but he can sing.

Michael Sarver wasn’t able to travel to Detroit because he was sick.  He’s all better by showtime and he chooses Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.   He says he’s going to “church it up”.  When Paula starts her critique with “Oh boy” we know he’s in trouble.  Simon said he couldn’t wait for the song to end and that he has no chance of winning the competition.  Just like Scott, he just isn’t up to some of the others.   My guess is he’s on his way out the door.

Singing Heat Wave is Lil Rounds.  She sings her butt off, but I was disappointed.  I don’t know what I expected but this wasn’t it.  Randy agrees with me!  (lol)  Kara says it was the wrong song and she didn’t put her own spin on it.  Paula disagrees with Randy, Kara and I guess…me!  Simon doesn’t think it was the right song.  It wasn’t bad but I think everyone was expecting her to hit one out of the ballpark and that didn’t happen.

Up next is Adam Lambert.  The tease before the commercial shows him all duded-up in a suit and his hair slicked back.  What does he have up his sleeve tonight?  He picks another Smokey Robinson song The Tracks of My Tears.  He does an original version, stripped down and tender but still using his falsetto.  Smokey Robinson gave him a standing ovation!  Woohoo!  Can you imagine Smokey Robinson standing for your performance?  Amazing!  The judges all rave. Simon says he’s the best of the night so far.  I just think he’s the best…period.

Danny Gokey is up with You’re All Right.  Smokey suggests that Danny sing the song a certain way, but Danny surprised me by ignoring his advice and doing the opposite.  Hmm.  Paula said consistent, good performance.  Simon says clumsy and  Kara says good but not great.  Yep, it was good but not great.

Last up tonight is Allison Iraheta.  She chooses Papa Was A Rolling Stone.  This song is perfect for her voice and her style of singing.  As usual, AI saved a great performance for last.  All the judges rave over her.  But Simon steals the show when he draws a mustache on Paula.

Bottom three?  Chris, Michael and Megan Joy are my guesses.  Let me know what you think!  Stay tuned…Bloggergal1

Your opinion is pretty accurate. I really like your frankness concerning Scott. I totally agree with your comment about him. But it really applies to Megan Joy. She just doesn’t belong on the show period! You’re being too kind about her. It’s not a matter of her selection of songs, she just doesn’t have the voice……Adam is a very very smart performer. He went out to the tip of the limb last week, realized it was too far and played it real smart this week. He calculates everything and its all part of his master plan to win. He’s not the best voice by far but he is the whole package, something none of the other men are. I think he is underestimated.

One thing I didn’t mention that I thought was interesting about Megan Joy this week was Simon’s comment. He said that whoever was advising her was not helping her at all. I was curious about this because aren’t the contestants supposed to be making these decisions on their own? It kind of reminded me of the judges’ attitudes towards David Archuletta’s father last season. Simon seemed to be trying to tell her something…or am I reading into something that just isn’t there?

I agree with you Patrick. I was very surprised that Megan Joy was not in the bottom three this week and that Matt was. My husband, always on the trail of a good conspiracy, feels that AI is keeping her around because there are only three females left. But then that would mean that AI skews the voting results and that couldn’t be right, could it? Hmm.

Thanks for commenting. You are always “right on”. Bloggergal1
