The American Idol Judges Find Talent in Austin…Did You?

Last night, American Idol sent 50 contestants to Hollywood.  Is that a lot?  I guess, but once again I have to ask…do you really think that the judges are doing whatever they want without the permission/direction of the producers?  American Idol pays to send those contestants to Hollywood.  I’m sure there’s a budget.  American Idol is going to have the number of contestants in Hollywood that they want in Hollywood.

As far as talent, there was some last night wasn’t there?  Seventeen-year-old, Hollie Cavanaugh was the girl that started crying, prompting Jennifer to ask her to sing a second song.  This was after Randy had already told her no.  After her second number, all three judges gave her a yes.  I don’t know if she deserved the second chance or not.  What do you think?

Those of you that know me personally know I’m a sucker for a pair of nice eyes.  John Wayne Schultz sure has nice eyes doesn’t he?  I don’t mind listening and looking at him. The smile’s not bad either!

Should I comment about that totally lame piece where Courtney is “in love” with Ryan Seacrest?  No?  Good.

Randy says, “This is love American Idol style.”  Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink are an awfully cute couple.  Alright, maybe it was a little too sweet.  I liked both of these contestants.

Will there be another Carrie Underwood?  Janelle Arthur sure hopes so.  She has the looks and the voice, but will she have the “it” factor?

Casey Abrams was the last contestant of the night.  He surprised the crap out of me!  I didn’t expect him to have such a soulful sound.  I really like this guy…watch him!

One last subject, I’d like to discuss with y’all (using my Austin Texas accent).  Has anyone else noticed how some of the contestants who are trying out and making it through to Hollywood aren’t from anywhere near where they auditioned?  There was the young girl from California that tried out in Milwaukee and made it through.  Tonight Casey is a prime example.  He lives in Idyllwild, California.  That’s not too far from me.  Probably why I took notice.  Last time I checked, Idyllwild isn’t anywhere near Austin Texas.  So why did Casey try out there?  Did he think he’d have a better shot auditioning against the Texans than he would against the Hollywood contestants?  After all, since so many come to Hollywood to “make it” there is a LOT of talent there.  I’m just wondering.

I have to confess, I found insider information that “supposedly” lists the top 40 contestants moving on after Hollywood.  So I kinda know who’s moving on and who isn’t, but don’t worry I’m not telling you!

Tonight auditions are in Hollywood.  There should be a lot of talent there, after all it’s Hollywood.  Of course, if you’ve ever been to Hollywood you know there’s also a lot of weird…a lot of lot of weird!  So, we shall see.  Have a good day and stay tuned…Bloggergal

American Idol Moves on to Austin

American Idol is off to Austin Texas tomorrow for another round of auditions.  I spent some time surfing the Internet today to see what people have to say about this season’s American Idol.  Most feel that Steven Tyler has brought new life to an old show.  Some are saying that Jennifer Lopez doesn’t like being second fiddle.  I don’t know if that’s true or not.  I don’t think she looks like the jealous type.  Plus, with her looks, what does she have to be jealous about?  I think the three judges work well together and make a great team.  I always hated when the judges pretended to fight with each other.

Another discussion that’s making its way around the Net involves Chris Medina.  Some feel that American Idol is capitalizing on what is a horrible situation to gain ratings.  You’d have to be a rock not to be touched by Chris’ story, but I think in the end, the voters will only vote for Chris if he can sing better than all the rest.

I don’t have much else to report.  These first few weeks are slow going.  I’m looking forward to when the real competition starts.

Have you heard anything about American Idol that I haven’t touched upon yet?  Let us know!  See you tomorrow…stay tuned…Bloggergal

American Idol in Nashville is mostly awful!

A lot of the comments so far have been that the judges are too soft and are letting too many through to Hollywood.  I’ve been thinking about this and I think what is happening is that American Idol is showing us more of the positive auditions this year.  It looks to everyone at home that all the contestants are going through, but in reality the “good” contestants are getting more camera time.  I would bet that there’s a set number of contestants going to Hollywood every year and someone is keeping track and making sure an extra 100 or so don’t sneak through!  In the end it doesn’t really matter how many make it through to Hollywood because they will be quickly whittled down to 40 before you can say “It was nice knowin’ ya!”

Tonight’s show started off awfully slow.  It’s 8:25 and I still haven’t seen anyone worth commenting on.  Now it’s 8:36, still nothing.  At 8:45, American Idol finally showcases three guys who make it through to Hollywood.  Jimmie Allen and Paul McDonald (Rod Stewart voice) are gonna be contenders.

As usual, American Idol saves the best of the night for last…Lauren Alaina Suddeth.  She’s a fifteen-year-old cutie with a nice southern drawl.  Her audition was good, but when she brought her family in and sang along with Steven Tyler, very nice.

Keep your comments coming…I’m lovin’ them.  Stay tuned!  Bloggergal

American Idol Milwaukee Auditions Trigger Tears and Cheers

One of the most interesting moments on American Idol was at the very, very beginning.  Were you watching?  Did you see Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson singing a little duet to Sweet Emotion?  Steven was keeping time with a mini Altoid tin and it was right on.  An Altoid tin…who doesn’t love Steven Tyler?  That’s just a figure of speech.  Please keep any hate for Steven Tyler to yourself!

Speaking of Judge Tyler, I want to skip right through the show and talk about the end at the beginning.  I don’t think anyone kept a dry eye during the Chris Medina storyline.  In love, about to be married and his fiance, Juliana ends up in a terrible car accident that has left her with a severe skull fracture, a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and multiple other fractures. Chris’s love for her never wavered and he’s been by her side throughout her whole ordeal.  By now, it should be pretty obvious that Chris can sing and is on his way to Hollywood.  Steven Tyler’s reaction to the whole thing and his tender moment with Juliana just makes me love him all the more!  If you want to know more about Juliana and perhaps help out a bit, check out her Facebook page For Juliana.

So Milwaukee had some good talent.  Amazing talent?  I don’t think I saw any amazing talent.  Let me know if you did.  One contestant that fascinated me was student teacher Scott Dangerfield. I loved his voice and his look.  As Randy said he was unassuming yet delivered, but I’m not sure unassuming will get him through Hollywood week.  Some that I think will deliver down the line are Scott McCreery, the young guy with the deep country music voice; Naima Adedap, the Summerfest grounds keeper; Jerome Bell, the Bar Mitzvah singer from  New York City; youngun Thia Megia; White House intern, Harvard graduate Molly DeWolf Swenson; Haley Reinhart, she auditioned previously;and  Tiwan Strong, the 29 year-old daycare teacher who sang Twistin the Night Away.  Out of all the above, I’m liking Jerome Bell to make it the farthest.  American Idol is giving him a lot of air time.

Those of you who have read my blog before know that I HATE the American Idol segments that feature the bad/sad singers.  I sincerely hope that some of those people are putting on a show for the camera because if they are serious, I don’t know what to think.  American Idol is about the next talented pop star and so the less I see of the no-talents, the happier I am!  Enough said.

So, that’s it from Milwaukee.  Thursday’s show features auditions from Nashville Tennessee.  So stay tuned…Bloggergal

American Idol…Change is Gonna Come

If you search the Internet, you’ll find at least one of each opinion about this year’s American Idol.  Some say the new judges don’t mesh.  Some say they are going to be too soft on the contestants.  Some say that they are just what AI needed.  If they find talented, interesting contestants, American Idol will carry on.  If the contestants are boring, same-old, same-old, then viewers are going to switch the station.  Speaking of switching the station, it has come to my attention that American Idol will be competing directly against Survivor later on in the season.  Thank goodness for DVR’s!

Last August, Universal Music Group replaced Sony as American Idol’s record label partner.  Not coincidentally, both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are part of the Universal Music Group.  What I think is going to be interesting about this season is that Jimmy Iovine (Interscope) will be coaching the contestants.  If that name is not familiar to you (it wasn’t to me!), he’s discovered some major music acts including Eminem.  As far as I know, this will be the first time that contestants will get to work with a record producer prior to winning American Idol.

The changes that Universal and Iovine are making are changes we all have been wanting for years.  Drum role please…NO MORE ARTIST/GENRE episodes!!!  It’s about time.  Never should an artist be expected to sing Broadway, Country, Rock, etc. and be good at all of them.  It just doesn’t work that way.  Also, contestants will get help from Universal’s top music producers with arrangements and song choice.  The goal will be to see every contestant at their best week after week.  How exciting is that?

I know that three celebrities sit at the desk and “judge” on American Idol.  What I don’t know is how much help they get from Universal and its higher-ups.  My guess is they don’t have final say at all–that Universal will pick the top 20.  If I’m right, then we really don’t have to worry if Jennifer Lopez likes a tear-jerky story or Steven Tyler is influenced by someone’s lips.  To us, American Idol is a TV show, but to Universal Music Group, it’s a profit making machine.

Speaking of the top 20, I read that another change this year will be that they won’t be based on gender.  In other words, there can be 20 female or 18 female and 2 males, etc.  The top 20 will be the best 20 performers.  This is another positive change, isn’t it?  Word on the street is that 40 contestants are currently in the running for those top 20 spots and that the number won’t be whittled down until the middle of February.  I’m not sure how true that is.  In past years, the top 20 has leaked out on the Internet rather early and I think American Idol wants to stop that from happening.

So, I don’t know about you, but I’m really excited about all the changes that are happening on Idol this season and I’m looking forward to watching them take place.  Personally, I like the three judges.  Steven Tyler will keep us laughing and on the edge of our seats for his next outrageous comment.  Let me know what you think of all the changes and AI’s new judges.

See you after Wednesday’s show…stay tuned…Bloggergal

Lee Dewyze Takes American Idol 2010

I just realized that this is my last blog!  I’m retiring from American Idol along with Simon Colwell.  I didn’t really think about it until I started watching tonight’s results show.  Thanks to all that read my ramblings!  I appreciate your patience and comments!

Special guest stars included Alice Cooper, a couple of Bee Gees, Michael McDonald, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Gervais, Hall and Oates, Alanis Morissette and Carrie Underwood.

The song with Crystal Bowersox and Alanis was choreographed so badly that the two of them looked like they were just running all over the stage and not even paying any attention to the song.  I found it very frustrating to watch.

I have to say, as I’m watching the show, I’m wondering if I’m going to regret choosing yesterday’s show over today’s show.  So far, I don’t regret my decision.  The famous singers are okay, but nobody that I really had to see.

I loved seeing Brett Michaels come out and sing with Casey James.  This was my second favorite part of the entire show.  You’ll know my favorite later.  I still love Casey and I hope he goes on to have a great career.

Lee Dewyze performed with Chicago.  I can’t help but compare Crystal’s song with Lee’s song.  Lee sang with Chicago–a great band.  He was able to stand still, sing and play his guitar.  AI had Crystal all over the place totally NOT enjoying her number.  Hmm.

What American Idol show would be complete without some crazy, failed contestants?  Of course, it wasn’t surprising to hear Larry Platt sing “Pants on the Ground” again, but having William Hung come out and stick his two cents in?  American Idol, you are starting to look a bit desperate.

The send-off of Simon Colwell was touching.  I loved seeing all the Idols up on the stage at the same time.  I did check…David Cook had a charity event in Kansas City that he couldn’t change.  Too bad he wasn’t there, having all the Idols on the stage at the same time would have been a special event.

Next surprise star was Janet Jackson, minus her hair.  For a minute or two I wasn’t sure if it was Janet or her sister Latoya.

Finally, we are at the moment that everyone is waiting for…the crowning of this year’s American Idol.  Here in California, it’s 9:53 p.m.  I know who wins because I checked on the Internet earlier tonight.  It’s the bad part about living in California–everything is taped and old news.

Oops, nope still not time.  First we have the two finalists singing with Joe Cocker “With A Little Help From My Friends”.  This was my favorite part of the show!  Even though Joe Cocker is old, he’s still a legend and that song is a classic.

Now it’s 10:00 p.m., I guess American Idol is going into overtime.  Here we go…Lee is already crying.  Finally, after torturing the crap out of the two of them, Ryan announces that the winner is Lee Dewyze.  I’m not surprised, but I have to agree with a lot of you.  Crystal follows in Adam Lambert’s footsteps.  I think Lee Dewyze is a great guy and he’ll make a good American Idol.

So that’s it!  I just want to take a moment to thank BBBlogger for giving me the opportunity to find my voice through his blogs.  I love you BB!  Thanks to everyone who helped me keep this blog going!  Love you all…Bloggergal1

My American Idol Finale Experience

Attending American Idol’s finale was a lot of fun!  We left our houses a little before 9:00 a.m.  It took almost three hours to get to the Nokia Theater with Los Angeles traffic.  After finding parking, we had to stand in line to wait for tickets, but we only had to wait about an hour.  We were given tickets with seats and this enabled us to go have some lunch and relax.  That’s a break because sometimes they make you stand in line and wait and wait and wait.

Outside the Nokia theater were a number of tents set up for media interviews.  I was able to see a lot of the old American Idol contestants.  Amore, I finally saw Justin Guarini close up and he STILL is as cute as he was all those years ago when he was on Idol.  I couldn’t take pictures because we weren’t allowed to bring cameras or cell phones and our car was too far away.  I was also able to get to see close up Michael Lynche, Brooke White, Blake Lewis, Anoop Desai, Constantine Maroulis and Allison Iraheta.

We had good seats in the 26th row.  I was surprised to see Justin Guarini sitting just a couple rows in front of us!  The theater is huge!  I was surprised at how big that place is.  There were 7,000 fans packed in there!

I’m sure everyone watched the show, so I’m not going to review all the performances.  A few things I noticed while in the audience…

When Lee sang his second song, Simon watched the entire number on the big screen to his right rather than straight ahead on the stage.  I think he wanted to see how Lee came across while performing.

All the judges got up during every commercial and left the stage.  One good thing was each one of them took the time to shake hands and greet fans.

It was disappointing that the other American Idol contestants walked in to the theater but not by way of the stage, so we weren’t able to get a good look at the them.  At the very end of the show, all of them were called onto the stage, but they were bunched together and I still didn’t get a really good look.  Casey does tower over everyone and he’s awfully cute in person.

Both Lee and Crystal sounded great in person.  They have great personalities and take the time to connect with the audience.

Speaking of the audience, it seemed really mixed between Lee fans and Crystal fans.  I did notice that Crystal’s fans were a bit more vocal!

This marks the first year that the final two contestants sang different songs (to be recorded).  Word at the show was that it was NOT fair to have Lee sing a Bono song because he was competing with Bono and Crystal.

There were a lot of teases about who will appear on tomorrow’s show.  Carrie Underwood is a definite.  I’ve heard some murmurs about Lady Gaga, but I don’t know how true that is.

So if you want my personal opinion, Crystal Bowersox was the clear winner tonight, but that doesn’t mean that Lee Dewyze won’t be the next American Idol.  We’ll see tomorrow…good night…Bloggergal

Our American Idol Predictions

Hi Everyone!

Counting up the votes for who will win American Idol was pretty easy.  I don’t think any of the comments has Crystal as the winner.  Overwhelmingly, Lee Dewyze is the choice–at least on this site!  I do think that Crystal is a better all-around talent than Lee, but like everyone who commented, I think Lee Dewyze will be the next American Idol.

I was able to get tickets for Tuesday’s show, so I’ll be there live and I’ll report back to ya’ all on Wednesday morning.  I’ve never been to the finale and I’m looking forward to it!

So, stay tuned…Bloggergal

Finally…American Idol’s Finale Is Next Week

Last night, when Ryan Seacrest announced that Lee Dewyze was safe, it was pretty obvious that Casey James was on his way out the door, wasn’t it?  Does that mean that Lee received more votes than Crystal?  I guess.

The finale pits Crystal against Lee.  Your paranoid blogger (Me!) thinks that American Idol took very good care of Lee Dewyze to get him to the final two and possibly the American Idol spot.  Could it be that he is a little easier to work with than Crystal?  I get the feeling that she has definite opinions about things and is not afraid to stand up for what she wants.  Reminds me of…hmm…who?  Oh, Adam Lambert!  Don’t get me wrong, I think Lee Dewyze is a nice guy who can sing and play guitar.  Will I run out and buy anything he records?  I doubt that.  I didn’t buy Kris Allen’s music after he left American Idol.

This will be only the second time I won’t attend the American Idol concert.  The first time was when I moved from Pennsylvania to California.  This time, I am just not interested enough to go.  I do look forward to seeing Crystal Bowersox in concert someday.

So, here we go…Let’s get those comments coming with who the winner of American Idol 2010 will be…Crystal Bowersox or Lee Dewyze.  I’ll stop by and count the votes before next week’s show.  Have a great weekend everyone….Bloggergal
